Surroundings

Thanks to its varied landscape types, Ter Hooge has special natural values.

Alongside the diversity of trees, many ornamental shrubs and exotic species have been planted along the edges of the meadows. Stinsen plants such as stemless primrose, snowdrop, bluebell, wild garlic and winter aconite are characteristic of this historic country estate. Meadow buttercup, lesser celandine, lords-and-ladies and cow parsley are the true harbingers of spring.

Plants and animals

In autumn, more than 200 species of mushrooms appear. The estate is also home to many birds: around 40 species breed in the area. Particularly striking are the grey herons, which build their nests high up in the trees. Ter Hooge is also home to a wide variety of butterfly species. In recent years, a small population of roe deer has once again established itself on the estate! These animals need peace and quiet and can easily panic if disturbed.

Visitors

Visitors are welcome to walk freely through the area along the existing (unpaved) paths. Two routes have been marked out: one through the park woodland and another that also takes in the surrounding meadows. For the latter, wellies are recommended after wet weather.
